Dr Craig Radford

Associate Professor

Dr Radford received a BSc in marine science from the University of Waikato (2000); MSc 1st class honours in
Zoology from the University of Canterbury (2003); and PhD in marine science from the University of Auckland
(2007). He currently holds a prestigious Rutherford Discovery Fellowship and recently been promoted to
Associate Professor. Dr Radford’s research has focused on understanding the role that underwater sound plays
in the life history strategies of marine animals. For this work, he has won numerous international and national
awards, such as:

  • Grass Fellowship to work at the prestigious Marine Biological Laboratory, in Woods Hole, USA;
  • SCOPE Young Scientist Award for Environmental Science
  • Finalist for the Prime Ministers Science Prize
  • NZ’s nominee for APEC science prize – Runner-up for NZ’s MacDiarmid Young Scientist of the year
