Dr Peter Saxton
Peter is a senior research fellow in the School of Population Health, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. He is the inaugural recipient of the NZ AIDS Foundation Fellowship and received the Australasian Sexual Health Association Interdisciplinary Achiever Award in 2016. Peter’s training spans epidemiology, sociology and public policy. He works closely with policymakers, health professionals and community agencies to improve HIV prevention programmes. He actively engages media and co-led the national HIV Consensus Statement (www.hivconsensus.org.nz). Peter’s work on HIV behavioural surveillance is internationally recognised and his current research projects include HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, sexual behaviour, drug use, HPV and gonorrhoea vaccines and blood donation.
